The massive size of
Biosphere 2 is hidden from visitors when they first arrive.
The Biosphere 2 Center
is a research and learning center for the exploration of how our
environment affects our lives and how we affect our environment.
It was opened to the public in 1990 and now includes numerous
educational, research, and visitor programs.
Biosphere
2 is the world's largest glass-enclosed ecological laboratory.
Inside, researchers are working to understand how increased carbon
dioxide in our atmosphere -- such as that produced by cars, industry,
and the burning of forests -- will affect us and the plant life we so
depend upon for our existence.
As you tour Biosphere 2, the
knowledgeable interpretive guides throughout the campus can answer your
questions.
The dining area of the Human Habitat which was designed to support ten
individuals with all the comforts of home.
Many exhibits, including the Climate Change and Life on Earth Exhibit,
are available to inform and educate visitors.
You will view the world from
a different perspective after a visit to the Biosphere 2 Center.
Enjoy the underwater gallery of the Ocean and Coral Reef.
The beautiful, onsite Biosphere 2
Hotel features 36 suites, pool, workout room, and tennis courts.
Special overnight packages include the tour, dinner at the Cañada del
Oro restaurant, and a continental breakfast. For business or club
meetings, the Catalina Conference
Center is the ideal setting for groups of up to 125 people, offering
state-of-the-art facilities. Special tours for
grades K-12 are also available.
All
exhibits and presentations are wheelchair accessible, and wheelchairs
and strollers are available for a nominal fee at the gate.
