The
Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station is the
largest nuclear power plant in the Western
Hemisphere. It can produce 3,810 megawatts of
electricity, which is more than any power plant
of any type in the United States. Each of
the three identical units produces more than
nine times the power of one of the generators at
Hoover Dam, where 17 hydro-electric generators
produce a total of 2,261 megawatts of
electricity. Palo Verde serves the energy
needs of about four million people, uses
recycled wastewater for cooling, and produces no
greenhouse gasses or particulate emissions into
the atmosphere.
