ARIZONA HOT SPRINGS
Go
4.2 miles southeast of Hoover Dam on US 93 to
parking area at the head of White Rock Canyon.
Hike down through the canyon to the river, then go
south along the edge of the water for ¼ mile.
Head upstream at Ringbolt Hot Springs Canyon to
the springs. Total hiking distance is almost
3 miles. Geothermal waters are 95º to 106º
F.

visitors may hike or drive the
4-wheel-drive Jackson Cabin Road 365 days a year.
Primitive back country camping is available on
this 48,120 acre preserve in the Galiuro
foothills. Access to camping areas requires
backback, horseback, or four-wheel drive. No
camping within three miles of headquarters. Stay
in modernized ranch cabin or casitas with private
kitchens and bathrooms at the headquarters
September thru May. Use of hot springs is open to
overnight guests of the ranch only. Absolutely no
day visitor or camper use of hot springs.
Headquarters of
ranch has 24-hour security on duty and Arizona
private property laws are strictly enforced.
Directions: Take Airport Road west out of Willcox 15 miles to
Muleshoe Ranch Road north 15 more miles to the
Nature Conservancy Visitor Center. This is a
seldom maintained, primitive dead-end road,
usually passable by passenger car except in major
rains. No food or services. Do not start out on
this trip without a full tank of gas, good tires
and a spare, a flashlight, and plenty of water.
Open range, watch for livestock. Be sure to
tell someone where you are going. Cell phones do
not work in this area.

Go south on US-191 for 6 miles
and turn left on road to Roper Lake State Park. Go ½ mile to state park.
Geothermal mineral water is 99º F. Facilities include camping,
fishing, picnicking, swimming, boating, and hiking for a day-use fee.
VERDE HOT
SPRINGS
Take I-17 to the Camp Verde
exit, then AZ-260 to Fossil Creek Rd., which is FSR-708. Turn right and go southeast
for about 15 miles, then go south on FSR-502 another 7 miles to Childs. Park in
camping area near the Verde River. Take trail upriver past the power plant to a dirt
road and follow it to a river crossing that is marked with stones. Cross the river
and go back downstream about a quarter-mile. Total hike is about 1 mile, including
the river crossing. Springs feed two pools in a structure that reportedly were part
of a resort that burned down in the thirties and was a hideout of Al Capone. Natural
mineral water is 98º to 104º.
