El
Tovar Lodge is just one of eight facilities
operated by Grand Canyon National Park Lodges. El
Tovar,
and Bright
Angel Lodge,
built in 1936, are located on the rim of the
Canyon and are both Registered National Historic
Landmarks. The modern lodges are Kachina
Lodge
and Thunderbird
Lodge
located on the rim, Maswik
Lodge,
¼ mile from the rim in several acres of
Ponderosa pine forest, and Yavapai
Lodge,
the largest, is just ½ mile from the rim.
Phantom
Ranch,
constructed in 1922, is next to Bright Angel
Creek on the north side of the Colorado River,
and is the only lodge below the Canyon
rim. Moqui
Lodge
is just outside the north entrance to the
National Park in Kaibab National Forest.
They also have an RV park, called Trailer
Village,
½ mile from the rim on the south side, with
paved sites and full hookups for RV's up to 50
feet in length.
